Miss Shirley Rae Melby and Roger Leonard Hegland, both of rural Moorhead, were married Saturday evening at a ceremony in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. E. R. Jacobson officiating at the double ring service. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Melby and the bridegroom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hegland, all of rural Moorhead.
Miss Delia Dahl played the nuptial music and accompanied Arthur Mortenson who sang "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer." The church was decorated with gladioli, chrysanthemums, pompons, ferns and candles. Tapers and bows marked the aisle.
The bride's gown was of nylon tolle and rose pointed lace over satin. The fitted bodice had a tulle yoke and jewel neckline, Marty Stuart sleeves and tiny lace-covered buttons. The skirt, of nylon tulle over satin, was cut on train. Her silk illusion veil fell from a tiara of crushed mother of pearl and lace. She carried a white Bible with Happiness roses and stephanotis garlands. She was given in marriage by her father.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Charles Anderson of rural Moorhead, wore a gown of dark blue net over taffeta and carried a semi-cascade bouquet of pink carnations.
Bridesmaids, Mrs. Russell Melby and Miss Marlene Melby, wore pastel blue net over taffeta and carried semi-cascades of strawberry pink carnations. All are of rural Moorhead and all wore headbands to match their gowns. Flower girl Gayle Melby, rural Fargo, wore dark blue net over taffeta and carried a small colonial bouquet of shell-pink carnations.
The bride's mother wore a black faille coat style dress with black accessories and rhinestone jewelry. The gridegroom's mother wore a royal blue suit with pink accessories and a corsage of red roses.
Charles Anderson of rural Moorhead was best man and Russell Melby and Duane Karlstrom, both of rural Moorhead, groomsmen. Ushers were Loren Hegland of Crookston, Minn. and Leroy Hamre of Erskine, Minn. Gerald Melby was junior groomsman.
Fellowship Hall of the church was the scene of the wedding reception and pink carnations and greenery were used in decoration.
Miss Dorothy Teigen of Moorhead had the guest book. Mrs. Duane Karlstrom and Misses Una Orud, Bette Sorenson, Phyllis Baugh, all of Moorhead, were at the gift table. Mrs. Elmer Larson and Mrs. Theodore Bekkerus, both of Moorhead, poured. The cake was cut by Mrs. Albert Melby of rural Fargo and Mrs. Elmer Hamre of McIntosh, Minn. Others assisting were Miss Ruby Rivinius of Moorhead and Miss Marilyn Olson of Glyndon.
Upon their return from the lake area after Saturday, the bridal couple will be at home on their farm near Moorhead.
